Haven is Senior Director of Program Strategy at Pivotal Ventures, a new philanthropic entity founded by Melinda Gates. In this role, Haven leads a team that incubates new innovations and approaches to overcome barriers to inequity, predominantly in the US. Previously, she was Senior Advisor to the Co-Chair in the Executive Office at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Haven started working at the Gates Foundation in 2008 as a Programme Officer in the Global Development Programme, which saw her develop and manage the Gender and Agriculture portfolio of grants. In this role, she was an early advocate for gender equality approaches at the foundation and provided counsel across the foundation on gender integration approaches and new programming.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Haven worked as a Senior Programme Officer of Social Impact Assessment with the US government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and also managed programmes funded by USAID with Chemonics International in Albania and Mongolia.
Haven received her Bachelor’s degree at Cornell University in Asian Studies and earned her MSc with Distinction in Gender and Economic Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is a trustee of the International Center of Research on Women and the Boyer Children’s Clinic in Seattle, WA and serves on the advisory board of IDEO.org.
