StriveTogether

Leveraging TEGA to improve educational outcomes for America’s youth

Beginning in Adams County, Colorado, Girl Effect and StriveTogether are testing how combining TEGA - our award-winning approach to adolescent research - with StriveTogether’s local community partnerships can improve educational outcomes for the young people across the United States.

In 2017, Girl Effect tested TEGA in the US for the very first time. Following the pilot’s success, Girl Effect is now partnering with StriveTogether, a national US non-profit, to bring TEGA to Adams County, Colorado and test how combining TEGA research with their local community partnerships could improve educational outcomes for the young people they serve.

In Adams County — the fastest growing county in Colorado — many families face challenges, including low-income households, high rates of teen birth and single mothers, lack of health insurance for children and significant numbers of English language learner students. These factors affect student success in areas from math proficiency to graduation rates.

StriveTogether believes every child should succeed and have the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. To get better results, we need to engage those impacted most, and forming a locally led group of researchers will give girls a chance to change their lives while creating real impact. We are thrilled to work with Girl Effect and the Youth Initiative of Adams County on using community voice to shape community solutions.

Communities in the StriveTogether Cradle to Career Network like Adams County track up to seven key educational outcomes. In each community, a coalition of local partners — including educators, government, parents and more — work to improve outcomes along the cradle-to-career continuum, from kindergarten readiness to post secondary completion and employment.

TEGA will be supporting these coalitions of partners with research to help them understand and validate some of the challenges facing youth in Adams County as well as assess the impact of interventions in real time.
