Girl Effect launched its partnership with the Edo State Government in Nigeria in 2018. As well as advocating for the Girls Connect programme publicly, the Governor of Edo State has provided funds towards radio and television advertisements to help raise awareness and ensure it reaches as many girls as possible.
Ensuring that girls are aware of the service, marketing and awareness-raising of the campaign is crucial. Through the Skills Development Programme, the Governor of Edo State has provided funds towards marketing and advertising of Girls Connect across the region.
The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, said
"Information is power. We are happy to partner with the Girls Connect project because it gives young girls access to information that can inspire and educate them.
"It fits into our overall activities to empower young people with the skills and tools to develop themselves and we commend the team for their effort and commitment. Based on the impact of the pilot, we are looking forward to a great impact on the lives of young women in Edo."
