They win the hearts and minds of parents, educators and community leaders, helping them to see the value of girls on a daily basis. In this paper, six grassroots organisations explain how they can transform the lives of adolescent girls.
The Grassroots Girls Initiative (GGI) is a partnership of six funders that believe grassroots organisations are uniquely qualified to design and implement effective, organic solutions for the most underserved girls in the communities in which they work. Grassroots Girls Initiative members are: Global Fund for Women, Firelight Foundation, The Global Fund for Children, Mama Cash, American Jewish World Service and EMpower.
"Profiling six organisations out of the 300 groups supported by the GGI, this report makes clear that quality grassroots organisations not only transform the lives of girls, but also shift the thinking of entire communities to see the value of girls. Unreached adolescent girls, mobilised by grassroots organisations, create visible, measurable change in their own lives and in their families, communities and nations. In this community-wide approach, grassroots organisations found the key to unlocking the dual shackles of poverty and lost opportunity."
